In Nagaland, discussions regarding road infrastructure have focused on both project management and regional connectivity. The Public Works Department clarified that two road projects in the Noklak district were closed on an “as-is, where-is” basis following the discontinuation of a central resource scheme, rather than due to land disputes. Concurrently, the Governor of Nagaland has advocated for improved road links with Myanmar to support the Government of India’s Act East Policy, specifically for trade and tourism. In a separate development, the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee has urged the state government to resume the second phase of the 395.9 km Foothills Road project. The committee is requesting work orders for the remaining Rs 282.27 crore approved under a special assistance scheme. The committee noted that despite public cooperation regarding land and support from political groups, the project connecting Peren and Mon districts has seen minimal progress since 2013. Recent progress includes the launch of the first phase of the Jangpetkong Road Construction Project at Orija Salang, Changki. This initial phase involves a 20-kilometre stretch from Changki X Junction to Dibuia and Luyong, built as a 3.75-metre-wide standard single-lane road under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 39.71 crore. Temjenmenba, MLA and Advisor for Transport and Technical Education, described the project as a “historic milestone,” noting the area has lacked a proper blacktopped road since Nagaland attained statehood. The full project is expected to cover approximately 62 kilometres and will be implemented in three phases, with Phase II currently under process. Further developments in the Mon district include inspections by PWD (R&B) Minister G. Kaito Aye of the Foothill Road at Tizit and the PMGSY-III road from Tizit to Oting.
