Nagykanizsa has implemented several initiatives focused on economic revitalization and social cohesion. The city’s Economic Development Council was reactivated after nearly a decade of inactivity to facilitate dialogue between leadership and entrepreneurs. Efforts to increase regional competitiveness include forums centered on circular economy practices, artificial intelligence, and smart regulation, with a strategic focus on expanding economic ties toward the Balkans.

Parallel community programs have been introduced to address social and environmental needs. These include cultural initiatives led by the Nagykanizsai Roma National Minority Self-Government to promote Roma identity and combat racism, as well as a renewed food donation program funded by a local Lutheran foundation to reduce food waste and assist residents in need.
