President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has addressed Namibia’s housing crisis, noting a national deficit of approximately 500,000 units. To meet the goals of the sixth National Development Plan, the President has set a target to deliver 50,000 houses by 2030, which requires constructing roughly 10,000 units annually starting in 2025.

As part of an effort to evaluate affordable solutions, the President personally funded the construction of two prefabricated houses in the Windhoek informal settlements of 8ste Laan and Kilimanjaro. Built by Yambuka Housing using SI-Panel technology, these units cost N$200,000 each and can be assembled within seven days of foundation completion. 

Experts suggest that achieving these targets will require increased collaboration between government institutions, private businesses, and financial regulators to improve access to land, planning frameworks, and municipal infrastructure.
