Namibia’s livestock sector has shown significant activity through mid-2026. In July, the Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) reported a profit of N$40.5 million for the fiscal year ending January 2026, despite a 53% decrease in cattle throughput. To bolster revenue, Meatco secured an additional quota for beef exports to Norway via a Namibia-Botswana government agreement, which is expected to generate an extra N$100 million.

By July 2026, Namibia saw a major surge in live cattle exports, which increased by 151.61% year-on-year to 13,008 head. This growth was primarily driven by demand for weaners from South African feedlots, which accounted for nearly 96% of these exports. This strengthened market also resulted in higher producer prices for slaughter ox and weaners.

Further data from July 2026 indicates that total cattle marketing increased by 31.85% month-on-month, reaching 30,653 head. This rise was fueled by a 73.14% increase in live exports and an 18.51% rise in A-class export abattoir slaughter. While South Africa remains the dominant destination for live exports, receiving approximately 95.94% of the total, Angola and Botswana also accounted for small portions of the trade. Despite the higher marketing volumes, producer prices remained relatively stable or strengthened slightly as strong export demand absorbed the increased availability.
