# Nano One LFP cathode technology development

Nano One Materials Corp. is advancing its proprietary ‘One-Pot’ process to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode active material (CAM). The company successfully integrated battery-grade lithium carbonate from Standard Lithium Ltd.’s South-West-Arkansas project into its production process.

Testing of battery coin cells manufactured at Nano One’s Burnaby, British Columbia, facility showed a discharge performance of approximately 155 mAh/g, meeting intended chemical and physical parameters. This development is part of an effort to establish an LFP cathode supply chain independent of China to mitigate global supply chain risks.

Nano One is expanding its Candiac Facility with a target production capacity of approximately 800 tons per year and intends to commission an expanded demonstration line in the first half of 2027. 

Building on these developments, the company has launched Canada DevCo, its first development company, to establish LFP cathode production facilities in Canada. Nano One has initiated a site evaluation study for a proposed production plant with an initial capacity of 25,000 tonnes per annum (ktpa), with the potential to expand to 100 ktpa. This project aims to serve the electric vehicle (EV), energy storage systems (ESS), and defense markets. The initiative follows a C$5 million award from Natural Resources Canada to scale the ‘One-Pot’ process and involves ongoing engagement with regional suppliers of lithium carbonate, phosphoric acid, and iron.
