In mid-October 2026, Ghanaian police conducted operations targeting the distribution and cultivation of suspected Indian hemp.

Under the codename ‘Red Maria’, the Northern Regional Special Operations Team intercepted a commercial bus traveling from Bimbilla to Tamale. Officers discovered 142 compressed parcels of suspected narcotics concealed in jute sacks. Four individuals—Alhassan Zeblim, Ibrahim Yussif, Bawa Yussif, and Mohammed Haruna—were arrested. During the operation, the suspects reportedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢50,000, which was rejected.

In a separate incident in the Volta Region, the Kpando-based Marine Police Unit discovered a suspected cannabis plantation and 16 sacks of dried leaves near Volta Lake in the Central Tongu District. A 31-year-old man, Vincent Lotsu, was arrested in connection with the discovery.
