Nasarawa United has experienced a difficult start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

In a matchday four fixture at Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa United played to a 1-1 draw against Rivers United. Rivers United took the lead via an own goal by defender Harrison Ebah, but Musa Yakubu equalized for Nasarawa United with a late penalty. Following the match, Nasarawa United technical adviser Mbwas Mangut expressed frustration, citing missed opportunities and claiming the team was denied three penalties.

Subsequent performance remained challenging as the club suffered a 2-1 defeat against Kwara United. This loss left the Lafia-based side in 16th position with four points from five matches. Coach Mangut acknowledged the disappointing results and stated that the priority is to stabilize performances and find consistency to move away from the bottom of the standings.

Heading into Matchday 6, the club was scheduled to host Niger Tornadoes in a northern derby. Following head coach Mbwas Mangut’s call for improved form, Nasarawa United secured a 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes at Lafia City Stadium. Harrison Ebah, who had previously scored an own goal in the match against Rivers United, scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute. Niger Tornadoes technical adviser Kabiru Dogo attributed the loss to a lapse in concentration.
