During the Cup Series YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, significant controversy emerged regarding fuel-saving strategies and technical regulations. Many teams intentionally slowed their pace to conserve fuel, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among drivers and concerns regarding the entertainment value of the race.

NASCAR officials issued warnings to a large portion of the field for minimum speed violations, noting that several cars were failing to maintain a pace within 12.5 percent of the pole time. Mike Forde, NASCAR vice president of racing communications, stated the warnings were intended to prevent black flags and keep cars on the track for fans and sponsors.

RFK Racing attempted to disrupt the fuel-saving pattern, with drivers Christopher Buescher, Ryan Preece, and Brad Keselowski maintaining high speeds to build a lead of up to 45 seconds. While Kyle Larson ultimately secured the victory, the event sparked debate over the interpretation of rules regarding the yellow line and the strategic impact of fuel management on the Next Gen car.
