NASCAR officials have repeatedly declined to issue penalties following on-track and post-race confrontations between drivers.

In September, the organization opted not to sanction William Sawalich after a collision with Corey Day at World Wide Technology Raceway. The incident, which involved Sawalich side-slamming Day, followed a previous encounter between the two at Darlington Raceway.

In October, NASCAR similarly decided against fines or suspensions for Michael McDowell and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. following a conflict at Charlotte Motor Speedway. During a cooldown lap, Stenhouse door-slammed McDowell’s vehicle multiple times, leading McDowell to retaliate by hitting Stenhouse from behind and spinning him out. Following a review of footage, NASCAR VP of Racing Communications Mike Forde stated that no penalties would be issued because neither driver hit a wall and both had their window nets up. Officials planned to meet with the drivers to ensure cars are not used as weapons in future incidents.
