The Florida Panthers initially invited unrestricted free agent Nathan Bastian to their 2026 training camp on a professional tryout (PTO) basis. Due to preseason usage rules and salary cap constraints, Bastian was limited to appearing in two of the team’s four preseason games.

Following the tryout, the Panthers signed the 28-year-old right-winger to a one-year, two-way contract. The agreement includes an $850,000 NHL cap hit and a $525,000 salary for time spent with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, with a total guarantee of at least $575,000 for the 2026-27 season. The team has placed Bastian on waivers, with the expectation that he will be assigned to Charlotte if he clears.
