Indonesia continues to manage the aftermath of a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and widespread forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan. The earthquake, centered near Nagekeo, has resulted in at least 105 deaths, 1,678 injuries, and the displacement of over 179,000 residents.

In a coordination meeting in Nagekeo, President Prabowo Subianto outlined new long-term initiatives, including a decade-long target to restore deforested areas in NTT through provincial and district-level nurseries and permaculture. The President also committed to a phased development approach for NTT to improve local welfare and confirmed the continuation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in the region.

Public organizations continue to weigh in on the crisis. The Indonesian Youth and Mosque Community Association (BKPRMI) expressed support for the President’s direct presence in affected areas to ensure effective recovery. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Islamic Student Association (PB PII) has urged the public to express aspirations peacefully and avoid the spread of disinformation, provocation, or hate speech to prevent social polarization during mobilizations.
