The NBA regular season continues with various matchups across the league. During the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 108-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, star player Jalen Williams suffered a severe leg injury. Williams was taken off the court on a stretcher late in the fourth quarter, specifically with 1:14 remaining, after landing awkwardly on his left leg while driving to the basket following contact with defenders Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr.

While initial reports suggested the injury involved his ankle or knee, Thunder General Manager Sam Presti has since confirmed that Williams suffered a fibula fracture and an ankle dislocation. The injury will require surgery and is expected to sideline the 25-year-old All-Star for a significant portion, or potentially the entirety, of the NBA season. During his removal from the court at the Paycom Center, Williams offered a thumbs-up to the cheering crowd.

Teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who led the Thunder with 34 points, was visibly emotional after the game, stating, ‘He’ll be back better than ever.’ Head coach Mark Daigneault noted the team was shaken by the incident, describing the situation as ‘tough’ for the roster and stating, ‘We’re not doing great.’ The Thunder also reported losses during the game to Cason Wallace, due to left shoulder soreness, and Jaylin Williams, due to right wrist soreness. Despite the injury, the Thunder have maintained an undefeated start to the season with three consecutive wins.
