The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II national rankings have seen significant movement among several programs during the early weeks of the season.

In early September, Minnesota State held the fourth position following a victory over Colorado Mesa, while Slippery Rock University entered the top 25 at No. 18. Ferris State maintained the top spot with all 31 first-place votes, followed by Harding and Kutztown.

By late September, Slippery Rock University rose to No. 8 in the national poll after a series of road victories. William Jewell College also received votes for the first time since 2006. While Ferris State, Harding, and Kutztown remained in the top three, Colorado State Pueblo moved up to No. 4, and Minnesota State dropped to No. 5.
