The contest features Republican Omaha City Councilmember Brinker Harding and Democratic activist Denise Powell. Initially, the race was noted for the district’s unique political history of electing Republicans while supporting Democratic presidential candidates. As the campaign progressed, both candidates shifted their focus toward economic affordability. Harding, a commercial real estate professional, has proposed using ethanol gasoline blends to lower fuel costs, implementing ‘Most Favored Nation’ pricing for prescription drugs, and increasing domestic cattle production. He also supports restricting federal welfare benefits for illegal immigrants. Powell, a small business owner, has centered her platform on capping healthcare costs, investing in education programs like Head Start, and ending specific tariff policies to alleviate economic pressure. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-20: Nebraska congressional race focuses on affordability Republican Brinker Harding and Democrat Denise Powell are vying for Nebraska’s second congressional district, with both candidates prioritizing different solutions to the regional affordability crisis. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nebraska-congressional-race-focuses-on-affordability ### 2026-08-22: Nebraska's second congressional district faces key midterm race Republican Brinker Harding and Democrat Denise Powell are competing for Nebraska's second congressional district seat following the retirement of Rep.
