Sources: 3. Developments: 2. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has engaged in high-level international efforts to stabilize Nepal’s economy. During an official visit to Washington, D.C., at the invitation of the World Bank, Wagle sought to mobilize international support for reconstructing infrastructure damaged by catastrophic flooding in the Bhotekoshi region. The mission also focused on attracting investment for electricity and road projects, implementing economic reforms, and securing aid to help Nepal exit the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List. Following these economic efforts, Wagle’s diplomatic stance has drawn domestic political scrutiny. Speaking at the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi, Wagle suggested that the era of defining Nepali nationalism through anti-India sentiment has ended, stating that the new leadership prioritizes economic prosperity and positive relations with neighbors. These remarks prompted criticism from political opponents, including Kamal Thapa, who characterized the comments as a “blatant devaluation of Nepali nationalism.” ## Timeline ### 2026-10-25: Nepal Finance Minister Wagle sparks controversy over India remarks Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle faces criticism from political leaders after stating that the era of linking Nepali nationalism to anti-India sentiment is over during a summit in India. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nepal-finance-minister-wagle-sparks-controversy-over-india-remarks ### 2026-10-03: Nepal Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle visits Washington for economic talks Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle is visiting Washington, D.C., to secure reconstruction aid for the Bhotekoshi flood region and discuss economic reforms and infrastructure investment with the World Bank and U.S.s 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nepal-finance-minister-swarnim-wagle-visits-washington-for-economic-talks --- Cite as: Nepal economic and diplomatic developments.
