Netflix has announced it will release the documentary ‘The Disciple: A Wu-Tang Fable’ on October 16, 2026. Directed by Joanna Natasegara, the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2026.

The documentary focuses on the life of Dutch-Moroccan rapper Cilvaringz (Tarik Azzougarh) and his mentorship by Wu-Tang Clan founding member RZA, who also serves as an executive producer. A primary subject of the film is the creation of the album ‘Once Upon a Time in Shaolin’, a 31-track project produced as a single physical copy to protest digital music consumption.

The unique album was auctioned in 2015 for $2 million to entrepreneur Martin Shkreli. Following Shkreli’s conviction for securities fraud, the record was seized by American authorities.
