Netflix has officially renewed the psychological crime thriller ‘The Beast in Me’ for a second season. Originally conceived as a limited series, the show’s transition into a standard drama follows significant global success, including reaching the top of Netflix’s Global Top 10 and accumulating tens of millions of views.

Claire Danes is set to reprise her role as Aggie Wiggs and will continue as an executive producer. While Matthew Rhys won a Primetime Emmy Award for his performance as Nile Jarvis in the first season, he will not return for the second season following the character’s death. The series was created by Gabe Rotter and features Jodie Foster as a producer.

Showrunner Howard Gordon will return to co-run the series alongside Daniel Pearle. As part of the renewal announcement, Netflix has established a creative partnership with Gordon, who will develop new series exclusively for the platform through his Teakwood Lane Productions banner. While the series maintains an 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, some critiques have suggested that certain characterizations can feel “exaggerated or caricatured,” occasionally bordering on “genre parody.”
