The Netherlands has launched the Dutch Pedestrian Monitor (Nederlandse Voetgangersmonitor), an initiative designed to collect data on how residents experience walking within their municipalities. In collaboration with Arcadis, the project aims to address a lack of detailed information regarding daily pedestrian routes and experiences.

Running until October 25, the monitor allows participants to use a digital map to pinpoint specific locations they value or areas where they encounter obstacles, accessibility issues, or safety concerns. The study covers various topics, including social safety, traffic safety, and accessibility for individuals with limited mobility.

Dennis van Sluijs, an advisor at Arcadis, stated that the collected data will assist municipalities in identifying specific bottlenecks and implementing measures to improve the quality of public spaces and urban walking environments.
