The municipality of Neuquén is implementing various urban infrastructure projects to improve connectivity and essential services. Initial efforts focused on the upgrade of Mandalari street, a historic thoroughfare, and the repaving of Alderete Street. Mayor Mariano Gaido has also overseen projects such as the Hiroki pedestrian bridge, the Isla de las Aves cable car, and the Neuquén Arena.

Expanding its urban development scope, the city and provincial government have launched a project to create 1,700 housing solutions on a site previously used as an open-air landfill near the North Highway. According to Marcos Zapata, president of the Municipal Institute of Urbanism and Habitat (IMUH), this initiative includes 1,100 serviced lots and 600 collective housing units. The first stage of 570 lots is currently undergoing street opening and block consolidation, with essential services like water, gas, and electricity expected to be completed by March 2027.

Additionally, the municipality has launched a large-scale infrastructure plan to pave 1,000 streets, primarily targeting the city’s western zone. Secretary of Infrastructure Alejandro Nicola stated the project focuses on arterial roads to improve connectivity and access for emergency services. Chief of Staff Juan Luis Ousset noted that provincial resources, including revenues from the Vaca Muerta oil formation, are being utilized to manage a population growth rate that is four times higher than the national average. Public works execution in the province reportedly increased by 28% in real terms by July compared to the previous year.
