Recent advancements in neuroscience involve the integration of human brain organoids into animal models and the reconstruction of visual data from neural activity.

At Stanford University, researchers led by Dr. Sergiu Pașca successfully integrated human brain organoids, derived from skin cells, into the brains of mice. These organoids grew to occupy large areas of the mouse cerebral cortex and formed functional connections with the animal's nervous system. Subsequent findings published in Nature detailed that the human tissue occupied approximately 92% of the animal’s cerebral cortex in specific chimeric models. This human tissue expanded nearly fivefold over several months, developed organized electrical activity, and extended nerve fibers into the spinal cords. Behavioral tests suggested the human tissue influenced functions, as electrical activity was associated with facial movements and improved performance on working-memory tests.

In a separate development, scientists from University College London used calcium imaging to record the activity of approximately 8,000 neurons in a mouse's visual cortex. By applying an algorithm to these signals, researchers reconstructed ten-second video clips, demonstrating how the brain interprets and represents sensory data within neural circuits.
