Thirty Clark County School District (CCSD) high school football programs in Nevada have transitioned to independent status for two seasons. This move, prompted by controversies regarding the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association’s rating system and a failed Open Division proposal, prevents these teams from competing for the state championship but allows for greater scheduling flexibility.

The new structure organizes teams into three ten-team levels split by east and west regions, with a playoff system leading to the Superintendents Cup.

As the 2026 season progresses, the first in-season High School Football America (HSFA) Nevada Top 10 rankings have been released. Mater Academy East entered at No. 3 following a victory over Faith Academy, and Churchill County entered at No. 6 after defeating preseason No. 4 Bishop Manogue 32-30. 

Following a 38-28 victory over preseason No. 1 St. John Bosco from California, Bishop Gorman has ascended to the No. 1 spot in the HSFA 300 national rankings. This win marks Gorman’s third consecutive high-profile victory against Bosco. In the updated national rankings, St. John Bosco dropped to No. 4, while St. Thomas Aquinas moved to No. 2.
