New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) prepared for its Destruction in Kobe event by expanding the match card to include a singles match between Claudio Castagnoli and Shingo Takagi. This matchup followed a recent rivalry stemming from a tag team loss involving Takagi in July.

During the event, Shingo Takagi defeated Claudio Castagnoli using the ‘Last of the Dragon’ move. In another match, Callum Newman defeated Jeff Cobb after utilizing a low blow while the referee was distracted.

The event card faced several adjustments prior to the show due to health issues and injuries affecting wrestlers Yuya Uemura, Yushin Hatazawa, Kosei Fujita, and Taichi, which led to the cancellation of the kickoff match and restructuring of tag team bouts.
