New York City officials have announced a $43 million investment to resolve payment delays affecting childcare providers. The initiative, led by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Chancellor Kamar Samuels, aims to stabilize the Division of Early Childhood Education before the September 10 school opening.

To prevent provider closures and support a new free childcare program for 2-year-olds, the administration is reassigning city staff to expedite contract registration and accelerate the processing of interest-free bridge loans, which are intended to be processed within five business days. The Department of Education will also deliver school supplies directly to providers and increase staff dedicated to monitoring communications with facilities.

Reports indicated that some centers had been forced to use private funds to remain operational. The administration’s response seeks to support approximately 2,000 toddlers across five school districts during the program’s inaugural year.
