Sources: 17. Developments: 3. The New York Giants released veteran running back Najee Harris following a Week 6 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Harris, who joined the team as a free agent in August, recorded only four carries for two yards in that game, bringing his total to 99 yards on 31 carries over five games. Head coach John Harbaugh attributed the decision to roster management and the team’s direction, noting the difficulty of carrying four running backs. Harris had previously expressed frustration regarding inconsistent opportunities and the team’s running back rotation. Following his release, the Giants' backfield will rely on Cam Skattebo, Devin Singletary, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. Harris is the third prominent veteran released by Harbaugh since the initial 53-man roster was announced, joining Odell Beckham Jr. and Darius Slayton. Following the release, the Giants secured a 27-21 overtime victory against the Houston Texans, fueled by a dominant rushing performance of 188 yards on 34 carries. Cam Skattebo led the effort with a career-best 124 yards, and Devin Singletary provided a 30-yard game-winning run in overtime. All four of the team's touchdowns during the contest were scored on the ground. Amidst these roster shifts, speculation has emerged that the Giants may seek a trade for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor following the firing of Colts general manager Chris Ballard. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: New York Giants bolster running game following Najee Harris release The New York Giants defeated the Houston Texans 27-21 in overtime, fueled by a strong rushing attack.
