Early in the season, linebacker Jamien Sherwood came under scrutiny due to poor defensive performance. Statistical data from Pro Football Focus indicated Sherwood ranked among the bottom tier of qualifying linebackers, specifically struggling with pass coverage. These defensive concerns were compounded by depth issues following injuries to Kiko Mauigoa and Marcelino McCrary-Ball. By late October, the team’s struggles extended to the offense, which ranked as the sixth-worst in the league with an average of 18.7 points per game. Following a 26-19 loss to New England, the team held a 2-4 record. While defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn defended offensive coordinator Frank Reich, the team's inability to utilize talent like receiver Garrett Wilson led to speculation regarding potential coaching changes. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: New York Jets face offensive struggles amid coaching scrutiny The New York Jets struggle with a bottom-tier offense despite defensive strength, leading to speculation regarding the future of their coaching staff. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/new-york-jets-face-offensive-struggles-amid-coaching-scrutiny ### 2026-10-01: Jamien Sherwood faces scrutiny amid defensive struggles for New York Jets New York Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood is struggling through the early 2026 season, facing low performance grades and scrutiny regarding his pass coverage and impact on the defense. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jamien-sherwood-faces-scrutiny-amid-defensive-struggles-for-new-york-jets --- Cite as: New York Jets performance and coaching scrutiny.
