The New York Knicks have begun their NBA preseason, with head coach Mike Brown utilizing extended minutes for starters to facilitate recovery following a championship run and a shortened offseason. In an 111-109 preseason loss to the Washington Wizards, starters Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart each recorded 13 points.

Landry Shamet has emerged as a standout performer for the Knicks. Following a four-year, $24 million extension, Shamet addressed questions regarding his health and shooting consistency by scoring 23 points in 27 minutes, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range. His performance may influence the team's rotation and the role of Miles McBride.

However, the Knicks have since faced scrutiny regarding bench depth after falling to an 0-4 preseason record. While Mohamed Diawara has shown defensive activity and a 45 percent field goal percentage, other key reserves have struggled offensively. Miles McBride is currently shooting 21.7 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from three-point range, while Jose Alvarado has shot 29 percent from the field.
