In late September, the team managed infield positioning due to the imminent return of Jazz Chisholm Jr. from a thumb injury. Manager Aaron Boone utilized players such as Ryan McMahon, Anthony Volpe, and José Caballero to navigate second and third base roles while maintaining an American League Wild Card position. By early October, the situation escalated as the Yankees faced elimination in the American League Division Series (ALDS) after falling behind 0-2 in the series. Following defensive errors in Game 2, Boone implemented further lineup changes for Game 3, including moving Anthony Volpe to second base and replacing McMahon with Caballero at third base. Additionally, the club faces upcoming financial decisions regarding a potential qualifying offer for Chisholm Jr. as he approaches free agency. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-05: New York Yankees adjust lineup facing elimination in ALDS Facing elimination in the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays, the New York Yankees have adjusted their lineup, benching Jazz Chisholm Jr. for Anthony Volpe as they prepare for Game 3. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/new-york-yankees-adjust-lineup-facing-elimination-in-alds ### 2026-09-21: New York Yankees manage infield roster shifts amid Rays series The New York Yankees face roster challenges and lineup shifts, including the pending return of Jazz Chisholm Jr., as they continue their series against the Tampa Bay Rays. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/new-york-yankees-face-infield-decisions-as-jazz-chisholm-jr-nears-return --- Cite as: New York Yankees roster and postseason developments.
