In early 2026 the NFL confirmed a series of regular‑season games outside the United States, beginning with the Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium, the first NFL contest in Brazil. The league then announced a multi‑year European presence, scheduling the Atlanta Falcons‑Cincinnati Bengals matchup at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu and expanding its Mexican footprint with a San Francisco 49ers‑Minnesota Vikings Sunday Night Football game at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City.

The full 2026 schedule later revealed additional overseas fixtures: the Los Angeles Rams would open the season in Melbourne, Australia, against the 49ers – the inaugural regular‑season game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground – and the Rams were slated for seven primetime appearances. The San Francisco 49ers were also set to travel to Australia for a mid‑season game, while the Minnesota Vikings secured a third consecutive international outing in Mexico City.

Subsequent reports highlighted the commercial and logistical impact of the Australian expansion, noting a multi‑year agreement with the Victorian government, strong ticket demand, and ancillary tourism benefits. The league’s offseason activity included preseason performance projections, stadium projects such as the Chicago Bears’ new venue, and player‑focused outreach like flag‑football clinics at Australian schools.

Overall, the 2026 season reflects the NFL’s aggressive push to grow its global footprint through a diversified schedule that spans Brazil, Mexico, Spain, and Australia, accompanied by extensive media partnerships and local engagement initiatives. As of early July 2026, the league has not announced additional overseas games beyond those already scheduled.
