Speculation regarding the Montreal Canadiens' roster has centered on defensive and offensive acquisitions. Initial reports indicated interest in the team's defensive players, such as Jayden Struble, Arber Xhekaj, and Adam Engstrom, from several NHL teams.

Subsequent rumors shifted focus toward potential offensive reinforcements. Proposals emerged suggesting the Canadiens could target Philadelphia Flyers forward Owen Tippett in exchange for assets like Oliver Kapanen, Alexander Zhoravsky, or a first-round draft pick. Additionally, a potential blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Kings was discussed, which would see Montreal acquire center Quinton Byfield in exchange for prospect Michael Hage, goaltender Sam Montembeault, and a 2027 first-round pick to secure a second-line center.
