Nicaragua has expanded its focus on historical memory and national identity through a combination of constitutional consultations and commemorative events. Building on previous university-led celebrations of indigenous and Afro-descendant resistance, the government is now conducting popular consultations regarding proposed constitutional reforms. Arling Alonso, Vice President of the National Assembly, stated that thousands of citizens—including youth, entrepreneurs, and people with disabilities—have participated in meetings across 59 municipalities in departments such as Río San Juan, Nueva Segovia, Granada, Carazo, Masaya, and Rivas.

In addition to these political consultations, Co-President Rosario Murillo has announced plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Carlos Fonseca Amador, the founder of the FSLN, through various social and cultural projects. Murillo also highlighted the historical significance of the October 13 raid on the San Carlos barracks, noting the legacy of the combatants and the historical brotherhood between Nicaragua and Costa Rica. These activities continue the government’s broader emphasis on cultural resilience and the preservation of the nation’s historical and ancestral lineage.
