Actor Nicolas Cage has criticized the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), comparing the franchise to a ‘well-funded and glorified WWE’ during a panel at Fan Expo Dallas.

Cage expressed that while the franchise initially featured interconnected character arcs and storytelling, it has shifted toward a formula that prioritizes large-scale action and spectacle over character development. He remarked that the focus often feels like it is ‘all cutting to the fight,’ noting that seeing gifted actors in ‘ridiculous outfits’ engaging in combat feels reminiscent of professional wrestling.

Cage contrasted this approach with his experience in the series ‘Spider-Noir,’ which he described as functioning more as a detective mystery rather than a succession of battles. He expressed a desire to see the MCU return to prioritizing narrative depth over spectacle.
