Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn is returning to directing with a new project titled ‘Her Private Hell’ (also referred to as ‘Su propio infierno’), marking his first film in ten years following a serious cardiac complication in 2019. Initial descriptions of the film characterize it as a ‘fairy tale’ centered on themes of memory, desire, and fantasy, utilizing a visual language influenced by the ‘dream machine’ of analog television. The narrative follows a young actress, played by Sophie Thatcher, who returns to her family hotel while her filmmaker father is shooting a project, exploring the relationship between fathers and daughters through a surreal lens. Subsequent details describe the setting as a ‘neon-saturated futuristic metropolis’ where a mysterious fog releases a deadly presence. The plot involves the protagonist searching for her father, whose path crosses with an American soldier, played by Charles Melton, who is attempting to rescue his daughter. Scheduled for a 2026 release, the film is described as a dystopian, dreamlike neo-noir with retro-futuristic elements and a runtime of 107 minutes. The screenplay is written by Esti Giordani and Refn, with a score composed by Pino Donaggio. The cast includes Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, Kristine Froseth, Havana Rose Liu, and Diego Calva. The project is a co-production between Denmark and the United States. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-13: Nicolas Winding Refn announces new thriller ‘Su propio infierno’ Director Nicolas Winding Refn returns with the 2026 thriller ‘Su propio infierno’, featuring music by Pino Donaggio and a cast including Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nicolas-winding-refn-announces-new-thriller-su-propio-infierno ### 2026-10-11: Nicolas Winding Refn announces new film Her Private Hell Director Nicolas Winding Refn returns after a decade with Her Private Hell, a sci-fi film set in a futuristic metropolis starring Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nicolas-winding-refn-announces-new-film-her-private-hell ### 2026-09-28: Nicolas Winding Refn returns with new film Her Private Hell Director Nicolas Winding Refn returns with ‘Her Private Hell’, a stylized fairy tale exploring father-daughter dynamics, starring Sophie Thatcher and Havana Rose Liu. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nicolas-winding-refn-returns-with-new-film-her-private-hell --- Cite as: Nicolas Winding Refn film Her Private Hell.
