Sources: 21. Developments: 2. Tensions between Niger and Chad escalated following a drone strike in the Emi Lulu area of the Agadez region on October 24, 2026. The Nigerien government reported that the strike, which occurred near the Chadian border, resulted in two civilian deaths, several injuries, and damage to vehicles. Niger has officially accused Chad of conducting the strike with support from France, characterizing the incident as a “flagrant violation of its national sovereignty and the UN Charter.” In response, Niamey announced plans to summon the Chadian ambassador, seek reparations, and refer the matter to the UN Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council while requesting an independent international investigation. Chad has firmly rejected these accusations, labeling them “unilateral” and maintaining that no military operations were conducted from its territory against Niger. The incident follows a period of deteriorating relations, during which Niger previously accused Chad of serving as strategic depth for armed groups targeting Nigerien energy infrastructure and populations. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-29: Niger accuses Chad of drone strike on its territory Niger has accused Chad of conducting a drone strike in the Agadez region that killed two civilians, prompting Niamey to seek international investigations and UN Security Council intervention. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/niger-accuses-chad-of-drone-strike-on-its-territory ### 2026-10-26: Niger accuses Chad and France of deadly drone strike Niger accuses Chad of launching a drone strike from Chadian territory with French support, killing two civilians in Agadez.
