Sources: 6. Developments: 2. Nigeria is facing dual challenges regarding its upcoming 2027 general elections and a confirmed Ebola case in Abuja. Representative Abdussamad Dasuki has raised concerns that Section 63(2) of the Electoral Act contains a loophole that could allow for counterfeit ballots, prompting a legislative push to amend the law and a request for the Independent National Electoral Commission to brief the National Assembly. Simultaneously, the federal government confirmed an Ebola case involving a woman arriving from Uganda, leading to the monitoring of 44 close contacts. This health development has fueled public skepticism, with some citizens fearing the outbreak might be used as a pretext to restrict movement or influence voter turnout. In response, Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo has called on the media to defend democracy and avoid commercialized coverage. Adebayo also addressed the health situation, arguing that a single case does not constitute an epidemic and warning against any attempts to cancel political campaigns or postpone the elections due to the outbreak. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: SDP candidate Adebayo addresses 2027 elections and Ebola concerns SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo calls for media to protect democracy and opposes shifting the 2027 elections due to Ebola concerns. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sdp-candidate-adebayo-addresses-2027-elections-and-ebola-concerns ### 2026-10-21: Nigeria faces electoral concerns and Ebola outbreak Nigerian lawmaker Abdussamad Dasuki warns that electoral law loopholes could allow fake ballots in 2027, while an Ebola case in Abuja has triggered public skepticism regarding potential movement restrictions. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nigeria-faces-electoral-concerns-and-ebola-outbreak --- Cite as: Nigeria 2027 election and Ebola outbreak concerns.
