In late September, regional leaders in Osun and Ondo states emphasized industrialization and youth empowerment through cultural festivals and sports manufacturing investments. For example, Governor Ademola Adeleke discussed establishing a football manufacturing factory and talent academy in the Osun Free Trade Zone to drive employment. By mid-October, the conversation expanded to a national level, with tourism stakeholders calling for a unified strategy to promote Nigeria’s assets. Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, advocated for tourism as a sustainable alternative to extractive industries like oil. To support this, the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) announced plans for a tourism-focused streaming platform to improve the global packaging and promotion of Nigerian heritage and cuisine. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-17: Nigeria tourism stakeholders urge unified strategy to boost economy Nigerian tourism leaders are calling for a coordinated national strategy and increased investment to leverage cultural heritage for economic growth and to improve the country's international reputation. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nigeria-tourism-stakeholders-urge-unified-strategy-to-boost-economy ### 2026-09-26: Nigeria leaders promote cultural heritage and industrial investment Nigerian leaders are promoting cultural preservation and economic growth, including sports industry investments in Osun State and palace beautification projects in Akure to safeguard national heritage. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/adeleke-calls-for-investment-in-ile-ife-cultural-heritage --- Cite as: Nigeria cultural heritage and tourism development.
