In October 2026, stakeholders criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to attend a capacity building training session organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Members of the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) expressed concern that this absence indicated a lack of commitment to transparency and effective election monitoring. By November 2026, INEC took disciplinary action in Ondo State, indefinitely suspending the Electoral Officer for Akure North Local Government Area, Akole Mobolade, for alleged negligence and absenteeism. Two other officers were also ordered to step aside. While addressing these personnel issues, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, confirmed that non-sensitive election materials are available in the state and called on traditional leaders to assist in voter card collection and the prevention of electoral violence. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-03: INEC suspends electoral officers in Ondo State INEC has suspended several electoral officers in Ondo State, Nigeria, over alleged negligence and absenteeism as the commission begins preparations for the 2027 general elections. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/inec-suspends-electoral-officers-in-ondo-state ### 2026-10-25: Nigeria's INEC criticized for absence at ICPC election monitoring training Stakeholders criticized Nigeria's INEC for failing to attend an ICPC-led training session aimed at preparing anti-corruption coalitions for election monitoring ahead of the 2027 general elections. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nigerias-inec-criticized-for-absence-at-icpc-election-monitoring-training --- Cite as: Nigeria electoral commission preparations and oversight.
