Developments: 2. On the sixth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests, commemorations in Nigeria have been met with police intervention. In Lagos, officers used tear gas to disperse a memorial gathering organized by the Enough is Enough movement at the Lekki Toll Gate, preventing a planned wreath-laying ceremony for victims of the 2020 shootings. Demands for accountability persist, with the Youth Rights Campaign calling for the prosecution of senior officials, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and retired Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai. Political figures have also criticized the government for a lack of transparency regarding the use of force during the original protests. Public discourse surrounding the anniversary also highlights broader national concerns. Actor Debo Adedayo, known as Mr Macaroni, noted that six years later, the country continues to face insecurity, hunger, poverty, and corruption. The movement, which originally targeted the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), remains a focal point for discussions on human rights and the socio-economic state of the nation. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Nigeria: Actor Mr Macaroni marks six years since #EndSARS protests Actor Mr Macaroni has decried rising insecurity, poverty, and corruption in Nigeria, marking six years since the #EndSARS protests against police brutality. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nigeria-actor-mr-macaroni-marks-six-years-since-endsars-protests ### 2026-10-20: Nigeria marks sixth anniversary of #EndSARS protests On the sixth anniversary of Nigeria's #EndSARS protests, police dispersed a Lekki Toll Gate memorial with tear gas as activists and politicians renewed calls for justice and accountability. 16 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nigeria-demands-for-lekki-toll-gate-shooting-accountability-resurface --- Cite as: Nigeria #EndSARS movement anniversary.
