Nigeria is scheduled to host the Federation of International Polo (FIP) Zone E World Cup Play-off tournament in Abuja from November 9 to 16, 2026. This event marks the first time the FIP has selected Nigeria to host these qualifiers. The tournament will include teams from nations such as Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, and India, with winners qualifying for the 2027 FIP World Cup finals in Uruguay.

As preparations progress, the tournament is expected to take place at the Guards Polo Club. In conjunction with hosting such international events, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced plans to upgrade the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. These upgrades aim to improve lighting, grass playing surfaces, and general infrastructure to transform the stadium into a multipurpose complex. Officials view the hosting of the qualifiers as a way to boost sports tourism and demonstrate Nigeria’s capacity for organizing international competitions.
