The Nigeria National League (NNL) established mandatory registration requirements for its 34 participating clubs ahead of the 2026/27 season. Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana stated that clubs must comply with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Club Licensing Regulations to avoid exclusion. Requirements include settling outstanding salaries and fees, providing a 20 million Naira guarantee, proving corporate incorporation, and ensuring home grounds meet specific infrastructural and medical standards.

As the season approached, the NNL rescheduled its opening Conference A match between Heartland of Owerri and Crown FC Ogbomoso from October 31 to November 1, 2026. This 24-hour delay was implemented to accommodate state events at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.
