The Nigerian Army is expanding its specialized military capabilities to address evolving security threats and counter-terrorism needs. In early October 2026, the Army graduated a new Special Forces battalion at the Special Forces School in Nasarawa State. This expansion is part of a broader effort to increase specialized capabilities as the Army grows from eight to 12 divisions.

Following this graduation, the military initiated a deployment of 600 personnel to India for specialized training in jungle and mountain warfare. The first batch of 300 soldiers departed Abuja in late October 2026. This training program is intended to improve operational maneuverability in difficult terrains and strengthen defense cooperation between Nigeria and India.
