Actress Nimrat Kaur has shared personal accounts regarding the 1994 death of her father, Major Bhupinder Singh, an Indian Army engineer.

Kaur recounted that while returning from duty in Verinag, Kashmir, her father was abducted by individuals wearing army uniforms. He was held hostage for seven days by terrorists, identified in later accounts as being linked to Hizbul Mujahideen, who demanded the release of imprisoned terrorists. Major Singh was killed on January 23, 1994, at the age of 44.

Kaur, who was 11 or 12 years old at the time, described the emotional impact of the tragedy, noting that she saw him leave for work only to see him again in a coffin. Major Bhupinder Singh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his service and sacrifice.
