Reports indicate that Ubisoft Milan developed a prototype for a The Legend of Zelda spin-off titled ‘Project Goliath.’ Led by director Davide Soliani, the project was intended to be an ambitious adventure. While the initial concept featured an original protagonist, Nintendo reportedly requested that the character be replaced by the franchise’s antagonist, Ganondorf, which would have made him a central, playable lead.

Nintendo ultimately rejected the project for undisclosed reasons. This rejection reportedly caused a breakdown in communication between the two companies, and subsequent attempts by Ubisoft Milan to pitch other intellectual properties, such as Star Fox or Mario, were unsuccessful.

The fallout from the project’s cancellation led to the dissolution of the development team. Several key members, including Soliani, Gian Marco Zanna, and Cristina Nava, left Ubisoft to establish an independent studio named Day 4 Night.
