The city of Niterói is implementing its first municipal school dedicated to sports by reorganizing the pedagogical model of the Antineia Silveira Miranda Municipal School in the Caramujo neighborhood. 

The initiative transforms the existing full-time elementary school by integrating sports as a core pillar of the curriculum. Rather than traditional weekly physical education, students will participate in several hours of sports per week to experiment with various modalities. The model utilizes teacher-coaches and encourages competition. Mayor Rodrigo Neves stated the project aims to use sports as a tool for “social inclusion and transformation.” The project is being developed throughout 2026, involving investments in infrastructure and pedagogical monitoring.
