On September 26, 2026, more than 51,000 qualifying viewers gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos to watch the film. Guinness World Records officially recognized the 51,000 viewers who remained at the venue from the beginning to the end of the screening. This figure surpassed the previous record of 43,624 set in 2015 during a screening of the Filipino film ‘Felix Manalo’ at the Philippine Arena. While Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat noted an overall attendance of approximately 64,000, the official record was based on the specific qualifying criteria. Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Rixel Studios, Signet Ring Studios, and FilmOne Studios, the film follows five women involved in a cross-border smuggling operation. Following the event, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu praised the achievement, stating that the success of the filmmakers demonstrates the talent and enterprise driving Nigeria’s creative economy. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Black Market film sets Guinness World Record in Lagos The Nollywood film ‘Black Market’ set a Guinness World Record in Lagos after 51,000 qualifying viewers attended its single-location screening at Tafawa Balewa Square. 12 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nollywood-breaks-guinness-world-record-with-51000-viewers-for-black-market ### 2026-09-25: Black Market film sets Guinness World Record in Lagos The Nollywood film ‘Black Market’ set a Guinness World Record for the largest single-location movie screening, with over 51,000 qualifying viewers attending at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. 19 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/black-market-film-team-seeks-guinness-world-record-in-lagos --- Cite as: Nollywood film screening world record.
