In Norway, the government proposed a 35 million NOK pilot program to be managed by Enova. The initiative aims to make repairing items like refrigerators and washing machines more financially viable for consumers. Climate and Environment Minister Sigrun Aasland noted the goal is to address high repair costs that often lead to unnecessary new purchases. While the government pursues this subsidy model, some consumer groups have criticized the lack of VAT reductions on repairs and second-hand goods. In Denmark, a service tax deduction has been available since 2025 to offset labor costs for appliance repairs. This deduction provides a tax value of approximately 26 percent. The Danish Energy Agency, which manages a campaign titled ‘Give your appliances a chance’, stated the measure is intended to extend appliance lifespans to save the raw materials and energy required for manufacturing new units. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-03: Denmark expands tax deduction for appliance repairs Denmark has introduced a tax deduction for repairing household appliances to promote resource conservation and extend product lifespans. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/denmark-expands-tax-deduction-for-appliance-repairs ### 2026-10-06: Norway proposes 35 million NOK pilot for appliance repairs Norway is proposing a 35 million NOK pilot program to subsidize the repair of household appliances, aiming to reduce waste and promote a circular economy. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/norway-proposes-35-million-nok-pilot-for-appliance-repairs --- Cite as: Nordic appliance repair sustainability initiatives.
