Sources: 4. Developments: 2. Educational authorities in Egypt and Algeria have implemented new measures to restrict the filming of teachers and classroom activities by students. In Egypt, the Ministry of Education issued directives that may lead to a one-year suspension for students who film teachers for the purposes of bullying, defamation, or social media distribution. While the measures aim to protect the “dignity and professional prestige of teachers” and curb cyberbullying, experts have noted the need for authorities to distinguish between malicious filming and the documentation of actual misconduct. Similarly, in Algeria, the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Sadaoui, ordered strict disciplinary action against students broadcasting live videos from classrooms. Citing existing regulations that prohibit recording devices in classrooms, the minister stated that violators should be referred to a disciplinary council. He characterized these incidents as “very isolated” and emphasized the need to respect the “ethics and sanctity of the teaching profession.” ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Algerian Education Minister orders discipline for classroom video filming Algerian Education Minister Mohamed Seghir Sadaoui has ordered disciplinary action against students filming live videos in classrooms, citing violations of strict mobile phone and recording bans. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/algerian-education-minister-orders-discipline-for-classroom-video-filming ### 2026-09-22: Egypt Ministry of Education issues teacher filming restrictions Egyptian Ministry of Education guidelines may lead to one-year student suspensions for filming teachers to bully or defame them, sparking calls for careful investigation to distinguish bullying from documenting 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/egypt-ministry-of-education-issues-teacher-filming-restrictions --- Cite as: North African school filming restrictions.
