The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported that North Korea is expanding its nuclear infrastructure, specifically its capacity for producing weapons-grade fissile material. 

Reports indicate the construction of a new two-story building at the Yongbyon nuclear complex that could accommodate up to 28 gas centrifuge cascades. Furthermore, the IAEA identified that an expanded annex at the Kangson uranium enrichment site, which was built in 2024, began operations in early 2026. 

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed “serious concern,” stating that these activities constitute a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. Due to the IAEA being barred from North Korean soil since 2009, the agency relies on satellite imagery and state media photographs to monitor these developments.
