The North Macedonian Customs Administration has received a 4 million euro investment from the European Union to modernize its operations. Funded through four separate projects, the investment provides advanced anti-smuggling technology, forensic tools, and new IT infrastructure to identify high-risk shipments. 

The upgrade also includes the acquisition of 26 specialized vehicles, such as units for mobile and K9 teams. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated the goal is to “make criminal activity unprofitable,” while EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas noted the investment aims to secure borders and facilitate faster goods movement through “green corridors.”
