Construction has begun on the North Okanagan Wastewater Recovery Project, a $49 million sewer and water reclamation initiative. The project is a partnership between the Regional District of North Okanagan, the Township of Spallumcheen, and the Okanagan Indian Band.

Following the receipt of a provincial municipal wastewater regulation permit, work commenced in July 2026. The project includes the installation of lift stations, wastewater collection lines, and treatment and storage ponds. Site grading and pipework are expected to continue through 2026, with the construction of reclaimed water storage ponds scheduled for 2027. The system is slated to be commissioned in the fall of 2027 and become fully operational by early 2028. Once functional, the treated wastewater will be used for irrigating local forage crops.
