A joint industry study led by DNV and several European offshore wind supply chain companies suggests that the levelized cost of energy (LCoE) for North Sea offshore wind could decrease by up to 28% by 2050.

The research indicates that these cost reductions are contingent upon standardizing turbine designs and establishing predictable, high-volume project pipelines. Such measures are intended to counter current rising costs and inconsistent development cycles caused by irregular project flows, which lead to the underutilization of existing capacity.

To support industry stability and achieve these reductions, the study calls for policymakers to provide consistent auction schedules and visible project pipelines. Additionally, the research notes that port capacity may become a constraint in high-volume scenarios, necessitating upgrades and expansion.
